Senior Field Automation Technician
Darwin, NT | Industrial Automation & Operational Technology

Our client is seeking a Senior Field Automation Technician to support and deliver automation solutions across critical industrial and infrastructure environments. This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced automation professional who can confidently troubleshoot, modify, commission and support PLC and SCADA systems in live operational facilities.

Working across a diverse range of industrial sites, you will play a key role in maintaining system reliability, supporting operational teams and delivering automation upgrades and improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced fault finding and troubleshooting of PLC, SCADA and HMI systems
  • Modify, maintain and optimise control system software
  • Lead commissioning activities for new installations, upgrades and system modifications
  • Support plant operations through reactive and preventative maintenance activities
  • Investigate system performance issues and implement corrective actions
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communications networks and field devices
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians and engineers
  • Liaise directly with site personnel, maintenance teams and stakeholders

About You

You will be an experienced automation professional with a strong background supporting industrial control systems within operational environments.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience in industrial automation, control systems or electrical/instrumentation environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Studio 5000)
    • Siemens PLCs (S7, TIA Portal)
    • Citect SCADA / AVEVA Plant SCADA
  • Demonstrated PLC programming, troubleshooting and fault-finding capability
  • Experience commissioning and supporting industrial automation systems
  • Understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus and Modbus
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead technical activities in the field

Qualifications

  • Electrical Trade Certificate, Instrumentation Trade Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Electrical Licence highly regarded
  • Cert IV Instrumentation & Control advantageous
  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation or Automation Engineering highly regarded
