Automation Engineer - Manufacturing

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with a strong background in manufacturing to support the design, development, maintenance, and optimisation of industrial automation systems. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of projects involving PLC, SCADA, HMI, and industrial networks while contributing to operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, program, and commission automation and control systems.
  • Modify and optimise PLC, SCADA, and HMI applications to improve plant performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation and process control issues in a manufacturing environment.
  • Support capital projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to improve system reliability and uptime.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, control philosophies, and functional specifications.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with site safety and quality standards.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or similar.
  • Proven experience working within a manufacturing, food & beverage, FMCG, pharmaceutical, packaging, or industrial processing environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Siemens (TIA Portal, S7 PLCs, WinCC)
    • Rockwell / Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, FactoryTalk)
    • Schneider Electric (EcoStruxure, Modicon PLCs)
  • Experience with SCADA and HMI development and support.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and OPC.
  • Experience with commissioning, fault finding, and system integration.
  • Understanding of industrial control panels, instrumentation, drives, and field devices.
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
